As the associate director for global safety and risk management, Allie is responsible for assessing risk for overseas travel and monitoring ongoing international developments for risk mitigation. Her position plays a key role in coordinating university communication and collaboration with regard to global risk and safety and, coordinate emergency response related to university-affiliated international travel. Allie chairs the Global Travel Oversight Committee (GTOC), leading in its charge to providing ongoing assessment of the countries or regions where Virginia Tech community members travel and develop international travel guidelines to ensure the health and safety of all travelers, and reviews requests for travel to high-risk destinations.
With many years of experience in high education administration, Allie is committed to supporting Virginia Tech’s community in accessing international opportunities through a focus on health, safety, and security. Allie has presented at several conferences on topics related to travel safety, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the intersections of diversity, equity, and inclusion with travel risk management. Allie currently serves on the board of directors for Pulse International, an association and network for health, safety, and security professionals in higher education. Prior to working at Virginia Tech, Allie served as a Military Policy Officer in the U.S. Army on active duty and as a Logistics Officer in the Virginia Army National Guard.
In 2010, Allie received a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a focus in crime and deviance from Virginia Tech and graduated from the Corps of Cadets with a minor in leadership. She received a master’s degree in human resources and an organizational leadership certificate from Brandman University in Irvine, California, in 2014, and a master's degree in public administration from Virginia Tech in 2023.
