2025-2026 Global Education Photo & Video Contest
Got some great shots when you were abroad? Could one of your pictures or videos be worth $125?
How to win:
- Submit Your Photos: A link will be posted on this page when the contest opens. Use the link to submit up to three pictures per category.
- Become a Finalist: After submissions close, the Global Education Office will select finalists for each category.
- Get Featured in a Gallery: Finalists' photos will be displayed in the Newman Library 4th Floor Gallery.
- Get the most votes: Throughout the fall semester, students, faculty, staff, and friends can vote for their favorite photos.
Once the voting closes in November, the finalists with the most votes in each category will be named the winners during a special reception as part of International Education Week in November 2026.
Enter Your Photos
Submissions for the 2025-2026 GEO Photo Contest will be accepted Tuesday, May 26 through Monday, August 31.
- There will be one winner for each category.
- Only photos taken between the September 2025 and August 2026 will be eligible to win.
- Current student winners will receive a $125 prize applied to their student accounts.
- Faculty, staff, and alumni winners will receive a non-monetary prize.
By entering the contest, you certify that you own the rights to the submitted photos, grant permission to Virginia Tech to use them for publicity, marketing, and communications, and confirm that they do not violate copywriting.
Hokie guideline for submission:
Entrants must have taken or directed the photo themselves. If the photograph was directed by the entrant, the entrant must be clearly visible in the picture. If the photo was purchased (e.g. a skydiving photo) entrants must receive permission from the photographer to enter this photo and must be clearly visible in the photo.
Check your grammar and spelling.
Avoid offensive language, slurs, or taunting.
Do not include references to or photos of alcohol being consumed, drug use, or illegal activities.
No self-promotion, promotions for friends, or business advertisements.
- Obtain consent before publishing photos or videos of others.
- Any video submitted that is longer than the time limit specified in the category description will be disqualified.

Student Categories:
- Students may enter one photo/video in each category.
- One winner will be selected in each category to win a $125 prize!
Show off your Hokie spirit while abroad.
Photos of beautiful places you visited during your travels with landmarks or landscapes that are easily recognizable as international locations.
These photos highlight a moment where you connected with and appreciated a different culture, enriching your worldview.
These videos can be of any aspect of your study abroad. It's meant to give people a quick snapshot of the activities, adventures, or learning experiences that you encountered while abroad. The video must be 45 seconds or less.
Faculty/Staff/Alumni Category:
- The winner will receive a certificate and gift.
Living Texbook:
Faculty and staff, share your photos depicting the experiential learning moments your students encountered during your program.
