2024-2025 Global Education Photo & Video Contest

Got some great shots when you were abroad? Could one of your pictures, videos, or social media reels be worth $100?

Submit your photos to the GEO Photo Contest 2024-25 between March 10 and August 1, for a chance to win $100.

Categories & Prizes:

  • Student Categories: There are five categories, and you can enter up to three items in each. One winner will be selected in each category to win a $100 prize!
  • Faculty/Staff/Alumni Category: The winner will receive a certificate and gift.

    Features something Virginia Tech branded or showcases Hokie traditions like the VT sign made with fingers.

    Photos of beautiful places you visited during your travels with landmarks or landscapes that are easily recognizable as international locations.

    These photos highlight a moment where you connected with and appreciated a different culture, enriching your worldview.

These videos can be of any aspect of your study abroad. It's meant to give people a quick snapshot of the activities, adventure, or learning experiences that you encountered while abroad. The video must be 15 seconds or less.

Have you designed a great reel for social media?  Share the reel you've have designed showcasing your study abroad experience. Reels must be 45 seconds or less.

Living Texbook    Faculty and staff, share your photos depicting the experiential learning moments your students encountered during your program.

How to win:

  1. Submit Your Photos: Use the link on this page (Available March 10 - August 1) to submit up to three pictures per category.
  2. Become a Finalist: After submissions close, the Global Education Office will select finalists for each category.
  3. Get Featured in a Gallery: Finalists' photos will be displayed in the Newman Library 4th Floor Gallery.
  4. Get the most votes: Throughout the fall semester, students, faculty, staff, and friends can vote for their favorite photos.

Once the voting closes in November, the finalists with the most votes in each category will be named the winners during a special reception as part of International Education Week in November 2025.

By entering the contest, you certify that you own the rights to the submitted photos, grant permission to Virginia Tech to use them for publicity, marketing, and communications, and confirm that they do not violate copywriting.

Hokie guideline for submission: 

  • Entrants must have taken the photo themselves.  Online images or images from other persons/sources are not eligible.

  • Check your grammar and spelling. 

  • Avoid offensive language, slurs, or taunting.

  • Do not include references to or photos of alcohol being consumed, drug use, or illegal activities. 

  • No self-promotion, promotions for friends, or business advertisements.

  • Obtain consent before publishing photos or videos of others. 
  • Any video submitted that is longer than the time limit specified in the category description will be disqualified.

  • There will be one winner for each category.
  • Current student winners will receive a $100 prize applied to their student accounts.
  • Faculty, staff, and alumni winners will receive a non-monetary prize.
