Special One-Time Funding Opportunity: Global Program Development

The Global Education Office is currently streamlining and realigning our global education grant portfolio to better support Virginia Tech’s global engagement mission.

While our fully updated funding opportunities will be officially announced in February, we are pleased to offer a one-time funding bridge for faculty requiring immediate support for global program development.

NOTE: These funds must be expended by the end of the 2026 fiscal year (June 30, 2026)

Purpose

These grants are meant to support the development of new or enhanced high-quality global education programs.

Award Overview

  • Five (5) Awards
  • $2,500-$3,500 per grant

How funds may be used:

Choose one of two primary tracks:

  • New Program Development: Supporting new faculty-led programs, cohort-based study abroad initiatives, or innovative pathways for international engagement.

  • Strategic Partnership Growth: Funding faculty travel to Virginia Tech or ISEP exchange partners to strengthen student mobility. Rather than "exploratory scouting," this track is for high-return investment in established exchange partnerships, to advance curricular alignment and faculty networking with these partners and increase student enrollment.

All full-time Virginia Tech teaching faculty (tenure track, collegiate, professors of practice, and long-term lecturers) interested in developing or expanding global education programs are eligible.

Academic advisors are also invited to apply for the Strategic Partnership Growth grant.

We prioritize programs that foster deep learning and challenge students to address contemporary global issues.

To reduce administrative burden and ensure rapid deployment of funds, we are using a simplified request submission process. Interested faculty should submit the following via a single email:

1. Brief project description including:

  • Program concept and goals
  • Proposed budget (detailing how funds will be used)
  • Student populations served by proposed program
  • Expected outcomes and student impact

 2. Statement of Support:

  • A brief letter from your Dean or college leadership confirming their support for the proposed project. While a financial match is encouraged, a letter of support is required.

Please email application materials to Marielle Wijnands at marielle@vt.edu

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all five awards are allocated.

If you have questions regarding eligibility or project fit, we encourage you to reach out prior to submitting. We look forward to supporting your innovative global initiatives during this transition period.
